Mysterious Intervention
During our deployments on the Barry, we would have Bible studies in the control room for the anti-submarine rocket launcher (ASROC).
One night while we were singing our contemporary worship songs (70s style), my friend was playing a guitar, and I was on a harmonica. I developed a problem while we were singing the song “He is Lord.” The harmonica just would not work. No matter how hard I inhaled or exhaled through it, it would not produce a note. Then it came to me…here I was, singing a song about Him being Lord, and I still had areas in my life that needed sanctifying (pride, hatred, jealousy, etc.).

As the others kept on singing, God was dealing with me, and I heard Him say,
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things I say?”…. (Lk. 6:46)
Revivals deal deeply with our lives. They penetrate to the core. We cry out for revival, but when it comes, God asks more of us than what we really want to give Him.
When we are praying for revival, what we often are praying for is for God to change the other person. We may not be all that interested in God creating an upheaval in our own life.
“Revival is God’s finger pointed right at me.” —Wilbert L. McLeod
