Demonic Manifestations During Deliverance
The purpose of deliverance is to see people set free so they can pursue Christ without the hindering baggage of demonic oppressiveness.
The following gives a little information about manifestations that could emerge during a deliverance session.
Manifestations
A demon manifesting is certainly scriptural. In Luke 9:39, the father of a boy with an evil spirit states, “a spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth.”
We have seen violent manifestations, but the most common manifestations are shaking, choking, gagging, crying, growling, cursing, trances (zombie-like state), or distorted voices. When strongholds are broken, people often burp, yawn, cough, spit, cry, or vomit. The Greek word for spirit is pneuma. This word also means breath, and most spirits leave via the mouth.
When dealing with witchcraft, spirit guides, or animal guides, people may imitate the animal, such as the bark of a dog or the hoot of an owl. They may flap their wings like a bird, fall to the floor and slither, rattle, or hiss like a snake, or in some other ways display animal-like behavior.
On occasion, super or unnatural strength is manifested. Regardless of what happens in a session never show fear. Also, keep your eyes open, not only for safety’s sake, but also because spirits will try to hide during a session so as not to be exposed and expelled. So, when addressing strongholds or spirits, watch the person’s body movements, as well as their face and hands. The eyes are called the windows to the soul, so keep an eye on them.

- Mockery
- Cussing
- Screams/ Roaring
- Shaking
- Convulsions
- Weeping/ Crying
- Hysterical laughter
- Writhing
- Fainting
- Belching
- Yawning
- Sighing
- Groaning
- Choking/ Gagging
- Retching/ Vomiting (foam, phlegm, blood)
- Rapid tongue movement
- Hissing
- Eyes red and piercing
- Eyes roll up into the head
- Humanly impossible facial contortions
- Hands become numb and tingle
- Fingers become rigid/ gnarled
- Paralysis
- Skin become pale and cold
- Voice changes (foreign accent, and at time a language never learned)
- Extraordinary strength
- Unpleasant odor
- Bodily posture exhibits pride
- Dancing, swaying the body
- Headaches and other bodily pain
- Threats toward those present
- Alternate personality emerges
- They may expose something from the deliverance minister’s past life to those present—to create fear and intimidation. Fear is Satan’s only tool. He wants to instill fear to crush your faith. It is a delay tactic.
