Hide the Pain, or Receive Healing from It
There are thousands who suffer in silence. They fear their inner torment will be exposed. They want to tell someone, but they fear that if they do, they will be shunned or treated with sympathy without real empathy.
The worst thing a victim of trauma can do is hide away and suffer in silence. The reason is that the “fight or flight” response to severe trauma can be lessened by talking about it with a friend or a kind listener who helps the suffering individual process pain and put it into perspective.
When there is a healthy emotional outlet for trauma to be expressed, then “fear extinction” takes place, slowly decreasing the high level of adrenaline-rushed terror. When there is no one to talk to or no way to escape repeated trauma, PTSD results.
Self-Constructed Jail Cell
Christians recognize that it is Satan that wants people to stay in this bondage, and he does so by encouraging them to build walls of protection to keep everyone away, even loving people who can help them.
If you or someone you know is living in their self-constructed prison cell, please know that there are people waiting to help. They will listen non-judgmentally.
