Self-Harm can include:

Why Young People Practice Self-Harm
It is not uncommon for us to encounter people who practicing self-injurious behavior. The individual’s purpose for this behavior is to gain a measure of relief from their inner emotional pain. The person finds that they are able to transfer their inner pain to their external physical body, thus gaining a temporary measure of relief. This is viewed as a coping mechanism.
We Approach Healing of Self-Harm from a Biblical Perspective
Some psychologists are encouraging their young patients who practice self-harm to make a Voodoo doll and transfer their emotional pain into that doll by inserting pins into it (Psychology Today). These are educated doctors giving this advice. Though we do not reject everything coming from the mental health profession, this is one practice that is far outside the boundary for any sincere Christian.
Voodoo Dolls
These dolls have the purpose of inflicting pain on the individual the doll represents. When the person inserts pins, they are spiritually bringing even greater harm to themselves than if they were actually inflicting physical self-harm.
