Prayer doesn’t mean anything if it isn’t linked to an assurance (faith) that what you are praying for will actually take place (Mark 11:24). The question must be asked: If revival is being prayed for, do we really believe it will happen?
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. – Hebrews 11:6
Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe? – John 11:40
Prayers Offered without Faith
Jonathan Goforth, the foremost missionary revivalist in early 20th century China, who experienced powerful revivals for years, said that
There never has been a revival except where there have been Christian men and women thoroughly believing in and whole-heartedly pleading the promises of God.
Traditional Unity Services
Most communities conduct “Unity Services” at different times during a year. These services are beneficial for a community, but few truly expects anything to come from them, other than an opportunity to be friendly to those from other churches.
We believe that many united efforts in praying for revival have become like a “Traditional Unity Service,” in that the revival prayer gatherings are a nice display of unity, but prayers offered during such events, if they are not backed up by means, efforts, or, as the apostle James would say, “works,” they won’t amount to anything.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. – James 2:26
Faith without Works is Dead
If a community is genuinely serious about pursuing God for revival, you will see them, not uniting a couple of times for unity services, you will find them implementing revival principles.
