“Satan Can’t Cross the Blood Line” / “I Plead the Blood”
Many Christians erroneously believe that Satan can in no way attack, afflict, or harass them in any way. That error is quickly exposed when we look at Eph. 6:10-18, and specifically vs. 16:
In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. (Ephesians 6:16 NLT)
If it is impossible for Satan to “cross the blood line” by virtue of us being a Christian, or by us using the formula, “I Plead the Blood”, then the above-mentioned passage and verse has no meaning. Because the inference in Eph. 6 is that if we do not “Put on the full armor of God“, we can then become vulnerable to Satan’s “flaming arrows”.
So, the answer to the question, “Can Christians be Hexed, Vexed, or Cursed?”, has been answered with a “Yes” we can, if we are not clothed in the armor of God.
Demonic Powers are Looking for an Opportunity
Jesus overcame Satan’s temptations in the desert, but that didn’t mean Satan didn’t look for more opportunities to tempt Him later on.
When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came. (Luke 4:13 NLT)
This lets us know that we must never let down our spiritual guard. Just because a person may feel as though they are walking in victory over sin now, and that they have conquered certain addictions, doesn’t mean those temptations wont return in the future.
Open Doors / Entry Points
An open door, or entry point, is any place in a Christian’s life in which Satan can gain an entrance. It may be an area of neglect. It may be outright disobedience to a known commandment, or to something God has told them to do. It may be blatant and willful sin they are tolerating in their life. It may be a negative attitude. It may be that they are lazy and are not praying, reading the Bible, or fellowshipping with other Christians.
► Satan is always lingering, prowling about.
► He is watching for the weak ones to attack.
► As your enemy, he has studied you.
► He knows your points of weakness.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NLT)
The above verse was written to Christians. The admonition is to “Stay alert!” and to “Watch out”. If it wasn’t possible for Satan to devour a Christian, then that verse has no meaning.
An open door, or entry point, gives Satan and demons the occasion to stick their foot into the door of your life. If you don’t recognize his entry right away, and work to push them out and get the door closed, in a very short period of time you will find that it is more than just the foot they have in your life. The foothold will become a leg, a torso, then their entire being. That foothold will then become a stronghold—a fortress—that Satan builds in your life. That is why we have been given this warning:
And do not give the devil a foothold. (Ephesians 4:27 NIV)
A Curse Must have a Cause
We have a biblical promise that a curse can have no effect on us, if it doesn’t have a cause, that is, if we have not given the curse an entry point in our life.
An undeserved curse has no effect. Its intended victim will be no more harmed by it than by a sparrow or swallow flitting through the sky (Proverbs 26:2 TLB).
Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight (Proverbs 26:2 NKJV)
God will Turn Curses into Blessings
Balaam, though not an Israelite, was a prophet of God. He was asked by Balak, the Moabite king, to curse the nation of Israel, and by so doing, he would be richly rewarded. Balaam, desiring that wealth, attempted to curse Israel but God forbid him from doing so. The attempted curse was then turned into a blessing (Joshua 24:9-10; Deuteronomy 23:4-5; Nehemiah 13:2).
Balaam, still desiring the wealth offered, turned to another method to obtain his wish. When he saw he couldn’t curse Israel, he provided counsel to the Moabite king so that the shield of God’s protection would be lifted, and thus the nation of Israel would in effect bring a curse upon themselves, without his outside influence (Numbers 31:16).
The counsel Balaam gave to king Balak was to send Moabite women among the Israelite men to entice them to commit sexual immorality and worship their gods.
While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them (Num. 25:1-3 NIV).
Through evil counsel, a curse came upon Israel, resulting in a plague that killed 24,000 Israelites (Numbers 25:9).
Do Not Live in Fear
Christians need not live in fear, as fear and lies are the only tools Satan has at his disposal. We have been commanded to 1) humble ourselves; 2) resist; 3) stand firm:
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are (1 Peter 5:9).
When we humble ourselves, resist Satan, and stand firm, we can have confidence in God’s protective power:
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world (1 John 4:4 NLT).
We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them (1 John 5:18 NLT).
