Prayer Guide for Seeking God’s Presence

To obtain a better foundation for using this prayer guide, we recommend reading the post titled: “What Does ‘Seek the Face of God Mean?‘” That post gives an explanation about the phrases, “seek my face,” “thirsting after God,” or, “a soul that pants for God,” etc.

Take your time and read each of the following verses several times, then make the verse a prayer as you ask God to manifest His presence to you personally, as well as to His Church.

Seek the Face of God

“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chron. 7:13-14)

When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” (Ps. 27:8)

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! (Ps. 105:4)

A Longing for God

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. (Ps. 63:1-2)

How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. (Ps. 84:1-2)

For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness. (Ps. 107:9)

Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are they who keep His testimonies, and who seek, inquire for and of Him and crave Him with the whole heart. (Ps. 119:2)

Pant After God

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? (Ps. 42:1-2)

Hunger and Thirsting For God

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Mat. 5:6)

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (Jn. 7:37-38)

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; [because they are in His presence]. (Rev. 7:16)

Desiring God

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Heb. 11:6)

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Lk. 24:32)

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Lk. 9:23-24)
