Praying for Revival is Praying for Power

Power Corrupts

Are we ready for revival? The enduement of spiritual power, like any type of power, has the potential to corrupt. Throughout the tri-state region of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, there are many thousands that have and are uniting in prayer for revival. They are praying for an increase in spiritual power. The question we must ask ourselves is, do we have the strength of character to utilize the arrival of that power without it corrupting us?

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.  ~Abraham Lincoln

Even outside seasons of revival, spiritual leaders have abused their authority (power). What would happen if spiritual power increases? During revivals, spiritual leaders at the forefront of the revival come quickly into enhanced fame. Are they ready for that fame?

The purity of human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame (Prov. 27:21b).

I have read the story of King Uzziah many times, and each time I have cringed as I watched this man, who started out greatly helped by God, then witnessed his destruction because of his pride.

So his fame spread far and wide, for he was marvelously helped till he became strong (2 Chronicles 26:15b).

Pastors and other spiritual leaders who are praying for spiritual power must also pray for God to purify their character in preparation for the granting of spiritual power, or that power will destroy them and the revival’s effect will quickly be diminished and come to a rapid end.

The Bible mentions a man who asked for power and he was rebuked by the Apostle Peter for his request because his motive was wrong (Acts 8:19).

What is your motive for requesting great spiritual power? Can your character endure it?
